[edit] Internal Links

Internal Links connect to other pages in this wiki site. You can either make a link to connect to another page or you can make a link going nowhere so that you can make a new page later. Internal links that link to an existing page in the wiki show up as blue text. Internal links that link to not-yet-created pages are in red text.

The important part of the link is the link's name. The page containing information on Yep Kanum Park, for example is named "Yep Kanum Park". To make an internal link to the Yep Kanum Park page, type two left angle brackets (without spaces between them) [ [ then type "Yep Kanum Park", then type two right angle brackets ] ]. It should look like this (without the spaces): [ [ Yep Kanum Park ] ]. This will create an internal link to the page Yep Kanum Park.

Another option (which does the same thing) is to select the name of the desire page and then hit the "Internal Link" button at the top of the edit page. It will look like two blue underlined Aa's. This will add the double angle brackets for you.

Be careful in how you type the name of the page you wish to link to. Any variation of spelling or grammar will create a new page, not link to the one you want.

[edit] External Links

External links connect to pages outside of this wiki site. External Links show up as blue text with a little blue box and arrow at the end.

To create an external link, type put in the FULL URL of the page you wish to link to. If you do not type in the full URL it will not link properly.

For example, if you wished to link to uppercolumbia.net, type (without the spaces) http:// www.uppercolumbia.net

[edit] Renaming Links

Sometimes, especially with external links, the link names are ugly or unwieldy. To rename the link, keep this rule in mind: Place, then Name. The official name of the link comes first (the place you wish the link to go) then the name you wish to use (the new name).

[edit] Renaming External Links

Say you want to link to http://www.scrld.org, but you want the link to say "Libraries of Stevens County". Here's how you do it:

Type in (without the spaces) left angle bracket [ http: //www.scrld.org. Leave a space and type the name you want to use and then the right angle bracket: Libraries of Stevens County ]. So, you would type this (without the spaces between the angle brackets and text - keep the space in the middle) [http:// www.scrld.org Libraries of Stevens County ] and it would appear as this: Libraries of Stevens County.

[edit] Renaming Internal Links

Internal links follow the same process as external links. Type in two angle brackets [[ and then the name of the page you wish to link to. Then, type the bar | (above the backslash \ on most keyboards) and then type the name you wish to give the page and the right angle bracket ].

So, for example, if you want to link to the wiki page about the library but call it "Libraries of Stevens County," you would type in the following (without spaces) [ [ Library | Libraries of Stevens County ] ]. Without spaces, it would appear as Libraries of Stevens County.
