Recently, I spoke with several folks who wanted to read all of R.A. Salvatore's fantasy novels in order. Trouble is, it's really hard to tell which book is what in what series. After sorting out the different series and trilogies and all, it seemed a shame to waste all that work.
So here it is, the list compiled and more or less organized. No wonder we got so confused: there are series within series here and many of the series overlap. It's not even clear which books belong to what series half the time. I have put the books in order as best I could, grouped by their apparent series, roughly in order of publication. Please note that some of these series are available in multi-volume works.
If you see an error, please feel free to correct it. Enjoy. - Whitney

[edit] Legend of Drizzt
The Legend of Drizzt is a multi-volume series that includes several other series. I've heard varying reports on what order these "really" fall into.
In Salvatore's books, the series is listed as being 13 volumes long. It is made of two trilogies (Dark Elf and Icewind Dale) and followed by two more series (The Legacy of the Drow and The Paths of Darkness). According to online databases I've checked, however, the Legend of Drizzt is only 8 books long, comprised of the first two trilogies and the first 2 books of the Legacy of the Drow Series. It regards the Paths of Darkness Series as an entirely different series.
I kind of assumed that Salvatore's publishers knew better than the databases when it came to listing the order. So I've tried to put this in an order that best represents the book jacket listing, but also shows how the online databases have listed the rest of the series. But this could be wrong. If anyone can shed light on this, feel free to clear up the confusion. (I have not read Salvatore and don't know.)
Cheers!
