From SCRLD Wiki
The Stevens County Wiki Project is a non-profit, community guide; its purpose is to allow residents of Stevens County, Washington to find and/or share information about their community. We trust that our users will be thoughtful and relevant in their postings. But should a problem arise, we ask that our users observe the following guidlines:
General Guidelines
- Do not profane the wiki. This is a family site. Please keep the language, images, links, and all other content clean and appropriate for all possible users.
- Please keep your contributions relevant. As much as possible, please keep your contributions related to the topic of Stevens County and/or northeastern Washington state.
- Please, no vanity pages. Our goal is to develop a community encyclopedia for Stevens County. We encourage contibutions of an informational nature. Businesses, please see the business section that follows.
- Please be as accurate and timely as possible. Though we state in our Disclaimer that we cannot be responsible for inaccurate information, please help us avoid confusion for our users by posting information that is correct and timely.
- Do not use the wiki for controversial discussions. Please refrain from using the wiki to advance political, religious, or other such topics. There are forums where such topics can be discussed online. We ask you to make use of those sites instead.
- Please use spell check. Mistakes happen to the best of us, but try to use correct grammar and spelling in your contributions.
- Please be polite when correcting other people's mistakes. Please use the "discussion" tab to inform the author of a mistake or required change. Either let them know in advance or leave a description in the discussion page as to why it was changed/edited/removed.
- Do not give out personal information that you do not "own". Please refrain from giving out any personal information on yourself or others without their verifyable permission. While some amount of personal contact information is legally "directory information", play it safe and ask. Furthermore, be aware of the possible problems of having your phone number, email address, etc. posted on a public site!
- If you are 13 or under, you must have parental permission to use this wiki. This is for your protected and to account for various applicable laws. Persons age 13 or under are not allowed post their contact information or other personal details on this site!
...and finally...
- Have FUN with the wiki! This is a fun technology to play with and a wonderful way to show off what you know about your community and find out about what you didn't know. Tell others about it and please, enjoy it!
Business Guidelines
- Business is VERY relevant to Stevens County. They are the lifeblood of the area. However, SCRLD Wiki is not an appropriate place for advertising.
- Relevant Directory Information. It is appropriate to list phone numbers, email addresses, website links, etc. on a relevant page. Relevance based off of common sense. For example, "A-1 Lawn Care" should not post their directory information in a page about local theater productions. They could, however, post it on a page about Northwest Yard Maintenance Tips.
- No place to post? If you can't find a relevant place to post among the existing pages and articles, then consider adding a relevant page! The ficticious "A-1 Lawn Care" would be strongly encouraged to write a short (relevant) article (that would make sense to have in an Encyclopedia of Stevens County) and then list their contact information on that page.
- Competition is Stiff. Directory information is allowed in relevant pages, but that includes ANY businesses that are relevant, not just yours. Be prepared to have your competition listed along side of you. Its all based on encyclopedic relevance. All tampering with, removing of, or shameless self-promotion is detectable in a wiki and is just as easily remedied as it is to do.
- Who decides? In a wiki, all users decide what is relevant and appropriate. In the case of disputes, however, this judgement is deferred to the wiki administrators.
- Be upright. This is a powerful community resource. Use it, respect it, protect it, and all of Stevens County will benefit.
